Supportive Housing

What is Supportive Housing?

Helping families delay or avoid personal care home placement until they are in need, supportive housing is best suited to seniors who find that that they can no longer manage independently in their own home. Designed specifically for those who are frail and elderly and/or for those that are mildly cognitively impaired, supportive housing meets the need for 24 hour, on-site support and supervision. Apartment living is combined with the provision of services that together work to support independence. These services include nutritious hot meals, light weekly housekeeping and regular laundry services. A common kitchen and lounge area create warm spaces for ongoing friendships and recreational activities to take place.

A knowledgeable, warm and friendly Health care aide provide 24 hour support and supervision for seniors to ensure ongoing safety. Promoting independence, a health care aide works with each senior to maximize their potential while providing a safe and supportive environment.

Clients of the supportive housing program pay rent for their apartment and a service package fee which pays for their personal meals, laundry and housekeeping services. Funding support from Manitoba Health and the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority ensures the provision of care from the health care aide and the recreational/activity program.
